\"\"<\/a>More and more, people are going to school and getting degrees, and learning new things. \u00a0Now, there\u2019s no doubt they may be able to teach you something you didn\u2019t already know, but does that automatically make them a guru?<\/p>\n

This is a question that comes up a lot in marketing and business. \u00a0What makes a guru anyway? \u00a0What qualifies somebody to be your mentor or coach\u2026or do they need any special qualifications at all?<\/p>\n

Honestly, it can depend on who you talk to. \u00a0Some people look at the credentials of the guru, or expert, as their marketing or business background, maybe the school they went to, and whether or not they hold an MBA in marketing.<\/p>\n

Those kinds of credentials are great, but a real guru\/coach\/mentor practices what they preach. \u00a0In fact, when you work with a real guru, you should be thinking G-U-R-U\u2026gee, you are you!<\/p>\n

It\u2019s can be relatively easy for someone to tell you how to use social networking, set privacy settings, how to post content, and give you other marketing and business advice on properly using social media to make money in your business. \u00a0But, what happens when you notice that they haven\u2019t actually used their own social media platforms in a week, or a month or more? \u00a0They\u2019re not practicing what they preach.<\/p>\n

The question becomes, and you have to answer this for yourself, do you want to take advice from somebody who isn\u2019t following their own advice.<\/p>\n

The point is to start looking at your support a little more realistically. \u00a0If you\u2019re hiring someone to do your marketing, or taking tips from someone based on the headline \u201c12 million Dollars in 12 Days,\u201d or \u201cInstant Marketing Guru,\u201d be a little critical, a little skeptical, and use your critical thinking skills.<\/p>\n

Obviously, the person is trying to catch your attention with the headline, but you have to ask yourself if what they\u2019re promising is realistic or not.<\/p>\n

The point is simple. \u00a0Know who you\u2019re working with, who you\u2019re learning from, who you\u2019re studying or coaching with. \u00a0Those are your hard earned dollars being put into those investments. \u00a0If who you\u2019re learning from or working with isn\u2019t practicing the very things they\u2019re telling you will work, then it\u2019s time to reconsider that investment.<\/p>\n

A guru isn\u2019t a larger than life personality who yells louder than the next guy or gal. \u00a0A true mentor\/coach\/guru is somebody who is walking the walk, not just talking the talk\u2026they are the person who is working in and on their businesses everyday \u2013 or who did for a lot of years and is now teaching those concepts to others.<\/p>\n

So, don\u2019t go looking for a guru \u2013 go out and find somebody you resonate with, that you relate to and who has the experience you\u2019re looking for to work with and learn from.<\/p>\n
