{"id":3214,"date":"2013-10-16T11:17:23","date_gmt":"2013-10-16T15:17:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.completemarketingsystems.com\/cms\/?p=3214"},"modified":"2013-10-16T11:17:23","modified_gmt":"2013-10-16T15:17:23","slug":"under-promise-over-deliver%e2%80%a6the-big-business-myth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.completemarketingsystems.com\/cms\/under-promise-over-deliver%e2%80%a6the-big-business-myth","title":{"rendered":"Under Promise &#038; Over Deliver\u2026The Big Business Myth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In business, you often hear the phrase \u201cunder-promise and over-deliver.\u201d \u00a0This concept is a myth and can actually cause harm to your business.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t ever under-promise\u2026 just over-deliver!<\/p>\n<p>Promise what you\u2019re going to give people, and then give them more\u2026 but don\u2019t intentionally under-promise.<\/p>\n<p>One example that was in a book I recently read was setting a meeting for an earlier time in your calendar because you always run late.\u00a0 For example, if you have a meeting scheduled for 2:00 and you know you\u2019re always 15 minutes late then schedule the meeting for 1:30 in your calendar.\u00a0 Then you will arrive at 1:45, 15 minutes early, and you think you\u2019ve over-delivered.<\/p>\n<p>The first thing you have to ask yourself is why are you always late?\u00a0 You\u2019re running a business so it\u2019s important to be on time.<\/p>\n<p>Set meetings for a time you can arrive on time, and then arrive on time.<\/p>\n<p>Be the responsible business person you need to be, and be a person of your word.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t under-promise so you can look good by over-delivering. \u00a0In this situation, the fact of the matter is you didn\u2019t over-deliver at all. You simply made good on your real promise.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re truly going to over-deliver then do something over and above, and something no one is expecting.\u00a0 That\u2019s over-delivering.<\/p>\n<p>Doing the right thing or the thing you should do isn\u2019t over-delivering.<\/p>\n<p>Pick-up the phone and thank somebody for investing in your course, for ordering something, or for coming into your shop that day.\u00a0 That\u2019s going above and beyond, and providing your clients an unexpected benefit.\u00a0 Those are the kind of things that are going to wow your customers and prospects.<\/p>\n<p>Wow people! And, do it by giving them things they don\u2019t expect.<\/p>\n<p>People expect you to deliver what you say you\u2019re going to give them. That\u2019s the minimum you should do anyway.\u00a0 Do what you say and then, go a step above and beyond so you exceed their expectation.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.completemarketingsystems.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/give-more.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-3215\" title=\"give more\" src=\"https:\/\/www.completemarketingsystems.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/give-more.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"236\" height=\"198\" \/><\/a>Run your business responsibly by doing more for your clients than they expect, and they\u2019ll stay with you for a long time to come.\u00a0 You\u2019ll never have to worry about where your clients are or worry about them working with you or buying from someone else.<\/p>\n<p>If you promise something, deliver what you promise, and then you go above and beyond what is expected or necessary.\u00a0 That\u2019s the way you run a successful business.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In business, you often hear the phrase \u201cunder-promise and over-deliver.\u201d \u00a0This concept is a myth and can actually cause harm to your business.
