{"id":3863,"date":"2015-12-03T06:45:32","date_gmt":"2015-12-03T11:45:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.completemarketingsystems.com\/cms\/?p=3863"},"modified":"2015-12-02T16:46:35","modified_gmt":"2015-12-02T21:46:35","slug":"do-you-think-coaching-is-about-holding-space","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.completemarketingsystems.com\/cms\/do-you-think-coaching-is-about-holding-space","title":{"rendered":"Do You Think Coaching Is About Holding Space?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I don\u2019t think coaching is all about holding space and asking questions as somebody said in a Facebook group the other day\u2026not at all!<\/p>\n<p>As a matter of fact, I\u2019d go so far as to say that is a bit off the wall.\u00a0 I can\u2019t imagine Tiger Woods\u2019 putting coach, Serena Williams\u2019 tennis coach, Kobe Bryant\u2019s shooting coach, or Bill Belichick telling them they are just there to hold space for them. My guess is the athletes wouldn\u2019t even be sure what that meant, and they would probably demand their coaches give them some advice, some guidance, and some help\u2026<br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\">\/\/ <![CDATA[\nvar playerhost = ((\"https:\" == document.location.protocol) ? \"https:\/\/cms-2015-videos.s3.amazonaws.com\/ezs3js\/secure\/\" : \"http:\/\/cms-2015-videos.s3.amazonaws.com\/ezs3js\/player\/\"); document.write(unescape(\"%3Cscript src='\" + playerhost + \"flv\/EDA07F67-BD69-725D-11F4A3CDBF375AF4.js?t=\"+(Math.random() * 99999999)+\"' type='text\/javascript'%3E%3C\/script%3E\"));\n\/\/ ]]><\/script><br \/>\nThe definition of a coach is to assist, to instruct, to help\u2026<\/p>\n<p>So, what makes a good coach?<\/p>\n<p>Certainly, there is a case to be made for listening and asking questions as a coach.\u00a0 I see that as part of the process, but not what a coach fully is.\u00a0 When I hire a coach (and I\u2019ve worked with one since I started my business) I am looking for somebody to guide me, to assist me, to give me suggestions, to discuss things with me and to share with me their experience.<\/p>\n<p>Hiring a coach is about growing and getting to the next level.\u00a0 To do that I want to work with somebody who is at a higher level than I am, who is making more money than I am, and who is doing different things \u2013 things I can benefit from.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s a coach.<\/p>\n<p>To be fair, part of the process is asking questions and listening so you know where the person is in their business and so you can access and make the best recommendations you possibly can.
