If you\u2019ve been around for a while you know I am a BIG sports fan. What you may not know is that I love playoff football season. As a matter of fact, this is one of my most favorite times of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This past weekend provided some great games, and one in\nparticular that was Epic!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019re wondering what all this have to do with\nbusiness\u2026your business\u2026keep reading, I\u2019m getting there. It\u2019s a very important\nlesson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The last game of the weekend last Sunday was the Kansas City\nChiefs (KC) vs the Houston Texans. The Texans shocked <\/strong>KC by going ahead\n24 \u2013 0 in the first quarter. It appeared they had the game in hand\u2026everything\nwas going their way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

KC came back to win the game 51-31, becoming the first team\nin NFL postseason history to win a game by 20 or more after trailing by 20 or\nmore. KC was the first team to ever score a touchdown on 7 straight drives.\nThey also scored 41 unanswered points in the comeback. I could go one, but I\nthink you get the picture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Did I say it was Epic? And fun to watch. It really was an\nexciting game, that had almost everything in it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why do you care? What does this have to do with you and\nyour business? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Well, as I was watching the game, and saw the reactions of\nthe players and coaches for KC, I realized that while they were certainly\ndisappointed in the start of the game, none of them were hanging their\nheads\u2026none of them had given up. There were going about their duties. There\nwere meetings and pep talks and encouragement happening on the sidelines\u2026and\nbehind the scenes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So many times, we quit, we stop, and we give up when things\ndon\u2019t go the way we had hoped or planned. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

OR, do you persist? Do you \u201cdouble down\u201d and really focus and go back to work (like KC did)?\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do you stick to your game plan when things don\u2019t go exactly\nas you had planned, or do you tuck tail and run? Abandon your plan and look for\na tactic or gimmick that might be a short-term fix?

\nBusiness, like the game of football (and like life) is a long-term gig. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So many times, I watch business owners give up on things too\nearly or quit altogether because it didn\u2019t happen fast enough (for them) or\njust was harder than they thought it was going to be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Small Business Association (SBA) 30%<\/strong> of\nnew businesses fail during the first two years of being open, 50%<\/strong> during\nthe first five years and 66%<\/strong> during the first 10. Those\nstatistics are staggering to me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Did you know that only 6% of all business owners every make 6-figures? It\u2019s true. And, I think that number should be reversed. I think it should be that only 6% of all business owners don\u2019t make 6 figures in their businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Is that possible?\u00a0 Sure it is\u2026if you are like KC and stick to your game plan, persist even when it\u2019s hard, build a good team with the right players, coaches and support staff and keep fighting\u2026even when it seems like the odds are against you\u2026and NOBODY else has ever done what you\u2019re trying to do (and in business they probably have).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Is it hard? It can be!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maybe that\u2019s the wrong question\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maybe the question should be \u201cIs it worth it?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m guessing KC thinks it was worth the blood, sweat and\npain they went through in that 3-hour game last Sunday\u2026because they are playing\nfor the AFC divisional playoff this coming Sunday\u2026and a chance at playing in\nthe Super Bowl.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By the way, the reason KC won wasn\u2019t just what they did in\nthe game on Sunday. It has to do with all the preparation leading up to it\u2026all\nthe way back to summer workouts, following specific nutritional programs, the\nmental aspect of the game\u2026and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just like your business success isn\u2019t just dependent on what you do today. It\u2019s dependent on your planning<\/strong>, your team<\/strong>, the skills<\/strong> and tools<\/strong> you use and much more.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Are you going to stay in the game when the chips are down\nand the odds are against you or are you going to keep your head, keep\nfighting<\/strong> and looking forward while you work your plan?
