Everybody\u2019s talking about the late hit out of bounds with just a few seconds left in the Cincinnati vs. Kansas City game during the game last weekend. The penalty allowed KC to kick the game winning field goal as time ran out.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m not naming names here for a reason \u2013 it doesn\u2019t matter (and you can find out with a simple search) \u2013 because it doesn\u2019t matter who the penalty was on.<\/p>\n

A football game, like life and business, is never won or lost on one single thing.<\/strong> Not one single play. Not on penalty. Not one promotion, or product launch.<\/p>\n

But wait\u2026 what about the Hail Mary at the end of the game or the last second field goal that allowed KC to win\u2026 that\u2019s an exception right?<\/p>\n

\"\"Or, in basketball when the shooter hits a shot at the buzzer to win the game?<\/p>\n

No, not then either!<\/p>\n

It\u2019s easy to look at one play, penalty or occurrence and say that was it \u2013 that won or lost us the \u201cgame\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Problem is there were hundreds of seconds, thousands of little things that happened before the one occurrence that had an impact on the outcome.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s short-sited to think one play one or lost a game. Same in business.<\/b><\/p>\n

As humans, we want to place blame or glory.\u00a0We want a hero or a villain<\/b>\u00a0in every story \u2013 especially in sports.<\/p>\n

Your business is a long play.<\/b>\u00a0It\u2019s made up of daily decisions that move you forward, keep you where you are or set you back.<\/p>\n

Your job is to\u00a0study, analyze and strategize<\/b>\u00a0about what is happening, make changes to it,\u00a0measure,<\/b>\u00a0and keep tweaking until you get the result you want.\u00a0\u00a0That\u2019s business. That\u2019s sports. That\u2019s life!<\/b><\/p>\n
