{"id":7086,"date":"2023-12-14T10:00:10","date_gmt":"2023-12-14T15:00:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.completemarketingsystems.com\/cms\/?p=7086"},"modified":"2023-12-12T11:11:43","modified_gmt":"2023-12-12T16:11:43","slug":"being-everything-to-everybody","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.completemarketingsystems.com\/cms\/being-everything-to-everybody","title":{"rendered":"Being Everything To Everybody\u2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On my recent trip to the Biltmore, I spent some time walking through and browsing in downtown Asheville, NC.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-7088\" src=\"https:\/\/www.completemarketingsystems.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/IMG_9724-242x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"189\" height=\"234\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.completemarketingsystems.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/IMG_9724-242x300.jpg 242w, https:\/\/www.completemarketingsystems.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/IMG_9724-827x1024.jpg 827w, https:\/\/www.completemarketingsystems.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/IMG_9724-768x951.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.completemarketingsystems.com\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/IMG_9724.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 189px) 100vw, 189px\" \/>As I walked past this particular restaurant, that was empty, in the middle of the day on a Saturday, I saw <strong>this sign.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While I love acceptance and diversity and inclusion, the thought when I say this was \u201cmaybe if you weren\u2019t trying to be everything to everybody, you\u2019d have more business\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, that\u2019s a judgement on my part.<\/p>\n<p>And I understand what the sign was trying to do.<\/p>\n<p>From strictly a business perspective, <strong>one of the biggest mistakes people make is trying to be everything to everybody.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This happens because you\u2019re afraid to miss a client or a prospect.<\/p>\n<p>What actually happens when you\u2019re clear about <strong>your target market<\/strong> and who you serve is <strong>more of the right people<\/strong> want to do business with you.<\/p>\n<p><strong>You can\u2019t be all things to all people.<\/strong> It just doesn\u2019t work. In any part of life\u2026 and especially not in business.<\/p>\n<p>Think about it\u2026 <strong>even socks are specialized<\/strong> these days. There are running socks, hiking socks, tennis socks, and more.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Be who you are for.<\/strong> Shout it loudly so everyone knows and those in that category can easily find you.<\/p>\n<p>And <strong>don\u2019t wimp out<\/strong> and start with broadening your target until and unless you\u2019ve given it a real chance.<\/p>\n<p>By the way, if you market to women then be that. Don\u2019t say I\u2019m whatever it is for women\u2026 and a few cool men. That\u2019s wimping out.
