I don\u2019t usually watch awards shows. I didn\u2019t watch the Emmy\u2019s last week, but I saw some of the speeches and a lot of the winners on social media.<\/p>\n

As I was scrolling through Instagram last Tuesday morning, I saw Niecy Nash\u2019s acceptance speech. She was excited to have won.<\/p>\n

One of the first things she said was \u201cI\u2019m a winner baby\u201d.<\/p>\n

My first thought was \u201cyou were a winner before you got this Emmy\u201d but I knew what she meant. The rush of the win.<\/p>\n

She thanked a lot of people, to include \u201cthe most high\u201d and then she said\u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know who I want to thank. I want to thank me.<\/strong> For believing in me and for doing what they said I could not do.\"\" And I want to say to myself, in front of all you beautiful people, go on girl with your bad self.<\/strong> You did that.\u201d<\/p>\n

She went on to accept the award on behalf of other brown and black women and she named a few specifically.<\/p>\n

I watched and listened to her a few times and each time I was moved by the idea that she thanked herself.<\/strong><\/p>\n

She got some laughs in the audience\u2026 a few people stood and clapped\u2026 but the crowd was abuzz the whole time she was talking.<\/p>\n

As people laughed at her thanking herself \u2013 more at her words and the way she did it, I hope, than her words \u2013 I was struck by them.<\/strong><\/p>\n

How many times have you thanked yourself for your accomplishments?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Growing up a farm girl, in a small town, rural Ohio, I\u2019m sure nobody expected me to end up where I am or with the success I\u2019ve worked for.<\/p>\n

I know for sure none of my college friends thought I\u2019d go to graduate school.
\nAnd being an entrepreneur\u2026 well, sometimes, that one still shocks me.<\/p>\n

One of the things I talk a lot about with my clients is celebrating wins \u2013 all of them<\/strong> \u2013 big and small.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m not talking about booking a cruise because you made a $100 sale. But you might treat yourself to a special coffee or lunch out or something appropriate to the sale. Bigger rewards with bigger achievements.<\/p>\n

If you don\u2019t celebrate you who will?<\/strong><\/p>\n

So many of our friends and relatives don\u2019t really understand us or what we do\u2026<\/p>\n

Celebrate you<\/strong> \u2013 celebrate your wins.<\/p>\n

Thank yourself\u2026 do it today!<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2013 and you don\u2019t need an award to tell you that.<\/p>\n
