I don\u2019t think coaching is all about holding space and asking questions as somebody said the other day\u2026 not at all!<\/strong><\/p>\n

As a matter of fact, I\u2019d go so far as to say that is a bit off the wall. I can\u2019t imagine Tiger\u2019s Wood\u2019s putting coach, Serena Williams former tennis coach, Steph Curry\u2019s shooting coach, or Andy Reid telling them they\u2019re just there to hold space for them.<\/p>\n

\"\"My guess is the athletes wouldn\u2019t even be sure what that meant and they would probably demand their coaches give them some advice<\/strong>, some guidance<\/strong>, some help\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n

The definition of a coach is to assist, to instruct, to help\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n

So, what makes a good coach?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Certainly, there is a case to be made for listening and asking questions as a coach. I see that as part of the process, not what a coach fully is.<\/p>\n

When I hire a coach (and I\u2019ve worked with one since I started my business) I am looking for somebody to guide<\/strong> me, to assist<\/strong> me, to give me suggestions<\/strong>, to discuss<\/strong> things with me and to share<\/strong> with me their experience.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hiring a coach is about growing and getting to the next level.<\/strong><\/p>\n

To do that you need to work with somebody who is at a higher level<\/strong> than you are, who is making more money than you are, and who is doing different things \u2013 things you can benefit<\/strong> from.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s a coach.<\/strong><\/p>\n

To be fair, part of the process is asking questions and listening so you know where the person is in their business and so you can access and make the best recommendations you possibly can. And, by asking questions, you know what obstacles you have to help your client overcome and get beyond.<\/p>\n

Mindset is a part of all coaching\u2026<\/strong> even elite athletes, so that\u2019s an important part of every coaching relationship.<\/p>\n
