The Women\u2019s SEC (Southeastern Conference) Softball tournament was last weekend in Athens, Georgia, and since it\u2019s\"\" only 63 miles from my house, I got tickets and went.<\/p>\n

(I\u2019m not great at doing things by myself, so that in and of itself was a stretch.)<\/p>\n

My plan was to just drive back and forth each day\u2026<\/p>\n

I mentioned this to my coach on one of our calls and she asked me this simple question\u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you were going with somebody would you<\/strong> stay in Athens overnight?\u201d<\/p>\n

You could have heard a pin drop (as my mom used to say)\u2026silence!<\/strong><\/p>\n

I realized, in that moment, that I wasn\u2019t treating myself as well as I treat those I love.<\/p>\n

And, like most of us, I had all the reasons (read excuses).<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s only an hour each way and the games start later in the day on the second and third days.\u201d
\n\u201cThere\u2019s no need to spend the money.\u201d
\n\u201cIt\u2019s just me.\u201d<\/p>\n

As soon as I got off that call, I booked a hotel in Athens.<\/p>\n

All the same things were true as had been prior to my call\u2026<\/p>\n

\u2026except!<\/p>\n

\u2026now I realized I can honor myself and be good to me too.<\/strong><\/p>\n

So, I packed the car and off I went \u2013 to Athens, just me.<\/p>\n

Of course, I had a great time \u2013 and I met some new friends\u2026because I\u2019ll talk to just about anybody.<\/p>\n

Not only was it good to be in the atmosphere of college softball again, it was good to know I had done something just for me.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It felt good to have stretched outside my comfort zone<\/strong> in this way!<\/p>\n

When was the last time you did that?<\/p>\n

It’s one of the many reasons I have a coach.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Yes, even coaches need coaches of their own\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n
