One of the things I loved most about being an athlete was every season started at zero.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It didn’t matter how well you played the year before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nobody cared how many games you won last season, how many home runs you hit, or what awards you received. The scoreboard reset. Every athlete had to prove themselves all over again.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The past gave you experience\u2026<\/strong>but it didn’t earn you today’s victory.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n

Business is no different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yet so many business owners spend their lives looking backward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They define themselves by what they used <\/strong>to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They compare themselves to the “good old days.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They tell stories about when business was easier, <\/strong>when they had more employees, when they had more clients,<\/strong> or when things just seemed to click.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There’s nothing wrong with remembering where you’ve been.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The problem is when nostalgia becomes your strategy.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your past should be a teacher, not your identity.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’ve worked with entrepreneurs who couldn’t stop talking about the million-dollar year they had a decade ago. I’ve also worked with business owners who couldn’t let go of mistakes they made years earlier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One was living in yesterday’s victories.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The other was trapped by yesterday’s failures.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Neither was fully present.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Neither one was building tomorrow.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The strongest competitors I’ve ever known had short memories.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If they had a bad game, they learned from it and moved on.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If they had a great game, they celebrated<\/strong> it\u2026and then got back to work.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because yesterday never wins today’s competition.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

That’s a lesson we could all use in business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your business doesn’t need the version of you that built it five years ago.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It needs the version of you that’s capable of leading it where it needs to go next.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

That requires becoming stronger<\/strong> at your core.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stronger in your discipline.<\/strong>
Stronger in your consistency.<\/strong>
Stronger in your leadership.<\/strong>
Stronger in your ability to make decisions without letting fear or ego get in the way.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Core strength isn’t about muscles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s about identity.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s knowing who you are<\/strong> without being attached to who you were.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the questions I ask myself regularly is this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Am I making this decision for the person I used to be\u2026or for the person I’m becoming?”<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Think about that for a minute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Are you investing<\/strong> in your future<\/strong> business\u2026or protecting your old one?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Are you building skills<\/strong> you’ll need tomorrow\u2026or relying on expertise from yesterday?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Are your habits<\/strong> preparing you for the next level\u2026<\/strong>or keeping you comfortable where you are?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every decision you make is casting a vote.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not for your past.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For your future.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The person you’re becoming is shaped by the choices you make today.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not by the trophies on your shelf.
Not by the failures you still replay in your mind.
Not by who you were five years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By what you’re willing to do today.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, here’s my challenge for you this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When you’re faced with a decision (big or small) don’t ask, “What would the old me do?”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instead ask:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“What would the future version of me choose?”<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because you aren’t your past.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

You are what you’re willing to become next.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

And the future<\/strong> you’re building starts with the choices you make today.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don’t make today’s decisions for yesterday’s version of yourself. Make them for the person you’re becoming.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
