Business Growth Can’t Happen When You Hide

As entrepreneurs and small business owners, sometimes we have a tendency to hide behind our computer screen, spending hours answering questions, filling your time being busy on the Internet…or maybe even wasting time on Facebook or other social media outlets.
Here’s the question to ask yourself: Are you filling your day with busy work or are you being productive?
It’s great that an entrepreneur, solopreneur or small business owner you have the option of working from home, but sometimes, you have to be careful because you might have a tendency to avoid the world and what’s happening outside your business because you’re hiding behind your computer.
If you’re hiding… ask yourself why? Most likely it’s fear, whether it’s the fear of rejection, putting your products and services out there for the world to see, or just getting yourself out there…it’s some form of fear either way.
There’s a level of security that sitting behind your computer offers, that doesn’t exist if you’re out in front of people, networking, or knocking on doors at local businesses that need your help. While the security and anonymity that staying behind your computer screen offers may feel more comfortable, the downside of you not fully getting out there is the missed opportunities to share your message, for people to get to know you and get help from you and your business.
Even if your business requires you to be sitting behind your computer screen, the challenge is to figure out if you’re using it as an excuse to hide. You have to think about whether you’re shining through and being the person and business owner you want to be and affecting the lives of the people who depend on your services.
Fear is what holds you back from what you want to do and from what you love. The things that motivate you as a business owner, like the big life you could have, the money you could make, and the lives you can affect, are the same things that can cause you the greatest fear.
Challenge yourself to go beyond fear, and stop hiding in your business. Get out from behind the computer screen, get off Facebook, get off Twitter, and stop squandering your time in an effort to not be seen.
Stop hiding. Get out there and share yourself and your talents with the world. You’ll be glad you did!
