56 Days Left. Most People Will Coast. Here’s Why You Shouldn’t.
November 5th, 2026 by Diane Conklin under Business - General, Business Strategy. No Comments.
Can I tell you something most business owners won’t admit this time of year?
They’ve already checked out of 2026.
They won’t say it out loud. But you can see it happen. The calendar flips to November, the holiday ads start rolling, and suddenly the most popular sentence in business becomes, “I’ll get to that after the first of the year.”
As of today, there are 56 days left in 2026. That’s not the end of the year. That’s almost two full months. More than eight weeks. Over 1,400 hours.
And what you do with those hours is going to decide how this year ends, and how next year begins.
Every year, the same pattern plays out.
Smart, hard-working business owners who pushed all year long start easing off the gas. Follow-ups wait. Marketing goes quiet. Proposals sit. And the reason is always the same…“Nobody buys during the holidays.”
But that’s not what’s really happening.
People are still buying. Decisions are still being made. Plenty of companies are looking at what’s left in their budget and deciding where it goes before December 31st. And the people who are thinking about January are thinking about it right now.
So, what changes?
Your competitors go quiet…
Which means your voice gets louder. Less noise. More attention. Same opportunity. That’s not a slow season. That’s an opening.
I spent a lot of years on a softball field – all the way through Division I at Mizzou. And one of the first lessons every athlete learns is games aren’t decided in the first inning.
They’re decided at the end. When legs are tired. When the score is close. When half the dugout is already thinking about the bus ride home.
The teams that win are the ones who play the last inning like it’s the first. Until the very last out in the last inning.
Business works exactly the same way. The finish is where the separation happens. And right now, you’re standing in the last inning of 2026 with the bat in your hands.
So how do you play it?
Finish Strong: 3 Moves for the Next 56 Days
You don’t need a brand-new strategy. You need focus. Here’s where I’d put it.
- Close what’s open. Look at every proposal, every “let me think about it,” every conversation that stalled. Follow up…today. Some of the easiest revenue you’ll earn this year is already sitting in your pipeline, waiting for someone to ask. Why not put that money in your bank account.
- Reconnect with the people who already know you. Past clients. Past leads. Referral partners you haven’t talked to in months. A simple “I was thinking about you” message opens more doors than you’d believe. People do business with people they remember.
- Keep marketing while everyone else goes quiet. A minimum of one email a week. One clear offer. Consistent, helpful, visible. When the market gets quieter, steady effort gets noticed.
Do those three things well, and you won’t just finish the year. You’ll finish it with momentum.
And momentum is exactly what you want to carry into what comes next.
Then prepare and get your head start on 2027.
Here’s a secret the most successful business owners have figured out.
They don’t start planning the new year in January. By then, they’re already executing.
Most people spend the first two weeks of January “getting organized.” Imagine being two weeks ahead of all of them…before the year even starts. Here’s how:
- Look back honestly. What worked this year? What didn’t? What are you no longer going to do? Write it down. Your 2026 results are the best data you’ll ever get for 2027.
- Pick your number. One clear revenue goal for 2027. Not a wish, a target. Everything else gets built backward from there.
- Map your first 90 days of 2027 before December 18th. What offers are you launching? What marketing is going out? Who are you reaching? Know it now, so January 1st is the starting line, not a brainstorm. Better yet, prepare it now to go out on January 1st. Then you’ll really be ahead of the curve.
Picture it. It’s the first week of January. Everyone around you is setting resolutions and figuring out where to begin.
Not you…
You’re already moving.
Every year comes down to this same quiet decision.
You can coast through the next 56 days, tell yourself you’ll start fresh in January, and spend the first quarter of 2027 trying to catch up.
Or you can do what winners do. Play the last inning like it’s the first. Close strong. Show up while others disappear. And walk into 2027 with a plan, a pipeline, and a head start.
The year isn’t over. Not even close.
56 days. Let’s make every one of them count.
Reply and tell me the one thing you’re going to finish before December 18th. I read every response. And there’s something powerful about saying it out loud. Once you commit, you’re already halfway there.
To Your Success –
