Book Review – It’s Not About You by Bob Burg & John David Mann

I love books that tell a story and have a message and express both of those things in a positive, uplifting way, and that’s exactly what “It’s Not About You” by Bob Burg and John David Mann does.

Without giving away the whole story and the message (you have to read the book yourself for that) in this little 120 page book, we are reminded that nothing about our business or being of service is really about us – it’s about the people we serve.

There is also a great reminder in “It’s Not About You” about how important it is to remember we have both external and internal clients in our business. External clients are those we serve who are outside of our company and internal clients are tho

se inside our companies – our staff, team members, vendors and the like. We need to serve them both or we lose out on a lot.

There is a huge difference between pushing and pulling – in life and in business. When you get to the point where you are attracting clients, business and team members to you instead of always pushing, pushing, pushing for everything you get, you will notice an amazing change – in your business and your life in general.

Another great message in “It’s Not About You” is that life isn’t always about doing, but about being. So very true, for all of us – especially us small business owners and entrepreneurs.

Pulling and being are two of the things I need to be reminded of on a regular basis and this book by Bob Burg and John David Mann was perfect for that.

Life leaves marks on all of us. The question is…what kind of character have you developed with your marks? Character, by the way, is really measured by what you do when you’re alone and nobody else is looking (just food for thought).

This book is a must read. It’s one I’ll be reading every year (I have a few books that I do that with) just to remind me what’s important and to keep me on track.

In addition to the great lessons in this book, there are some great characters…I’d love to hear if you relate to one in particular.
