Book Review of “The Dream Giver” by Bruce Wilkinson

“The Dream Giver” is a great little inspirational book that is really a story in the first half of the book.  I especially liked the first half of the book where the story takes a man named “Ordinary,” who wants to leave his life in the “Land of Familiar” and branch out to see what exists outside of his town and his paradigm.

The book then takes you along Ordinary’s path and through all the obstacles he goes through to reach him dream.  Ordinary meets Faith along his path, as well as giants.

The story really is the story of any of us who have a big dream and face obstacles along the way that test our faith and our conviction to keep moving forward without giving up or going back to our comfort zone.

The story could be any of us. We all have been given a big dream and if we’re willing to take a risk and overcome some obstacles, we can and do get past them to move closer and closer to our dreams.

To me, the biggest lesson of this book is that we all have a dream and sometimes that dream gets pushed to the side and we ignore it or forget about it, but it’s always there waiting on you. And, if you don’t pursue your big dream, something very important in life won’t happen.

It’s a bit of a daunting idea, to think that we are all here to fulfill our dream and if we don’t keep after it and accomplish that thing there are important things that won’t happen that are supposed to…in some ways, that feels like a big responsibility to me, and yet one that I’m certainly up to achieving.

Another key idea here is that the journey toward your big dream changes you. In so many ways it’s about the journey and not the destination.

Here is another key idea that really struck me…

“Until you decide to pursue your Dream, you are never going to love your life the way you were meant to.”

We have to break out of our comfort zones to achieve our Big Dreams. As a matter of fact, comfort and the desire for it, in many ways, is the enemy of your dream.

So, get out there and go for what you want, I know I am! And, if you need a little inspiration along the way, pick up this little book called “The Dream Giver,” for a little needed inspiration and keep going after what you want in life.

I hope to see you out there along the way, on the journey!
