Working Harder Than Ever & Making Less?

Stop Working Harder. Change the Model.
I keep hearing some version of this right now:
“I’m working harder than I’ve ever worked and making less than I did five years ago.”
And there’s an important distinction we need to make.
Effort is not the variable.
It hasn’t been for a while.
You can work more hours. Answer more emails. Create more content. Take on more clients. Add another offer. Learn another platform. Chase another strategy.
But if the underlying business model is capped, more effort just gets you to the cap faster.
Think about it this way…
If your business model allows you to make $200,000 while working 60 hours a week, adding another 10 hours doesn’t magically turn it into a $300,000 business.
You’re just working 70 hours inside the same model.
I’m seeing this everywhere. Business owners are busier than ever, but many are questioning why all that activity isn’t translating into more profit.
That’s because busy and profitable are not the same thing.
The question isn’t, “How can I work harder?”
The better question is…
“What would have to change about the way I’m running this business for my effort to produce a different result?”
That might mean changing your pricing, changing your offer, changing who you serve, or changing how you deliver the work.
Building systems.
Creating leverage.
Sometimes, it means completely changing the model itself.
Because you can keep pouring more effort into a model that has already reached its ceiling.
Or you can build a model with a higher ceiling.
You don’t necessarily need to work harder.
You need to stop trying to get a different result from a model that was never designed to produce it.
