Book Review of “The Dream Manager” by Matthew Kelly

May 6th, 2011 by under Diane's Book Reviews. No Comments.

This book was a pretty quick read and I finished it in just a couple days.

It’s a powerful book, written in a story format, all about a janitorial company that significantly reduces its turn over, and dramatically increases profits while changing lives, by helping their employees achieve their dreams. Some of them become home owners for the first time in their lives, some put their kids through college or go back to school themselves, some take long extended trips they’ve dreamed of for years, and there is a lot more.

It was significant for me as a reader because it made me realize how little attention I’ve been giving to my dreams. Not the ones we have at night while sleeping, but my life dreams, the things that keep us all going, that fire our internal engines and have us leaping out of bed in the morning with the anticipation of the day.

And, as a business owner, it made me think about my responsibility to my staff to help them achieve their dreams as well.  The interesting thing about this concept is that by helping others achieve life dreams, it may actually mean that they outgrow their positions and even your employment, but when you do what’s best for other people it always comes back to you in the long run.

Again, as business owners and entrepreneurs, we’re always looking for Buy Cialis Super Active more sales and sales people.  Another important point in this book was that when once people know you care about them and are invested in them, they respond in kind and everyone turn into sales people for you – with your internal and/or your external customers.

The book ultimately, to me, boils down to one big message…and this might surprise you, but it’s really about connection. Connection instead of being disengaged, in our work, in our relationships, in our lives, and with ourselves.

It’s very much like what we talk about all the time…it’s all about the relationship. The question is, what kind of relationship do you have with your dreams?

What I’ve Done Since Reading The Book:  So, I’m not sure I’ll do this every time I review a book but in this instance I feel like it’s important to tell you that I was so moved by buying generic cialis the message in this book and the fact that I realized how disengaged I’ve been from my dreams and even my relationship with myself (not in a weird way) that I have taken action on one of the recommendations of the book. I have started my very own Dream Book, complete with pictures of things I want to do, places I want to see, things I want to have, and the difference I want to make in the world so I can leave a legacy.

Stay tuned, I might even share some of them here.

In the meantime, remember, Don’t Be Ordinary!
