Your Reminder (And Mine)!

The Women’s SEC (Southeastern Conference) Softball tournament was last weekend in Athens, Georgia, and since it’s only 63 miles from my house, I got tickets and went.
(I’m not great at doing things by myself, so that in and of itself was a stretch.)
My plan was to just drive back and forth each day…
I mentioned this to my coach on one of our calls and she asked me this simple question…
“If you were going with somebody would you stay in Athens overnight?”
You could have heard a pin drop (as my mom used to say)…silence!
I realized, in that moment, that I wasn’t treating myself as well as I treat those I love.
And, like most of us, I had all the reasons (read excuses).
“It’s only an hour each way and the games start later in the day on the second and third days.”
“There’s no need to spend the money.”
“It’s just me.”
As soon as I got off that call, I booked a hotel in Athens.
All the same things were true as had been prior to my call…
…except!
…now I realized I can honor myself and be good to me too.
So, I packed the car and off I went – to Athens, just me.
Of course, I had a great time – and I met some new friends…because I’ll talk to just about anybody.
Not only was it good to be in the atmosphere of college softball again, it was good to know I had done something just for me.
It felt good to have stretched outside my comfort zone in this way!
When was the last time you did that?
It’s one of the many reasons I have a coach.
Yes, even coaches need coaches of their own…
…how about you?
