Using Social Media For Profit In Your Business

It’s pretty much understood among those currently on social media that pretty much every business needs to have a presence there in today’s world. However, you might be surprised to find out, especially is you are active on social media, and have been for awhile, there are still people every single day, who are joining Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and all the other social media platforms that are out there – many of them are businesses and business owners.

If you’re somebody who’s new or hasn’t really been involved in social media the big question people often ask is, how do I get started or what’s the easiest way to get started?

The best advice is simply to go to Facebook, set up an account, and start to get familiar with using it. If you want to set up and be active in two platforms, then set up Facebook and Twitter. These are two of the most popular social media sites or platforms today.

Then, start to post, start to see what people are doing, and start to have conversations with other people. That’s what social media is really about.  It’s about having conversations, and it’s about relationships. As a business owner, social media is really about relationship marketing, and it’s a great tool for that very thing – building relationships with clients and prospects.

Whether you are getting on Facebook for personal or business use, it doesn’t really matter. It’s all about building relationships.

Think about this analogy. Think about social media as a cocktail party. It’s a cocktail party and you were invited to someone’s home, for a cocktail party, and you don’t know anyone. In this situation, would the first thing you do is go up to someone and yell “hi, my name is Diane and I am a direct response marketer, do you want to do business with me?” No, clearly you wouldn’t do that because people would run screaming from the party, to get away from you, right? The conversation would go more like this “Hi how are you doing? Do you live in the area?  Do you have kids?”  Those are the kinds of questions you would ask people at a cocktail party. You would ask and talk about personal kind of things to get to know people.

It’s the same thing on social media. You want to start off by getting to know people, and letting people get to know you. It’s ok to post about your business. It’s great to give people tips and content. In fact, that’s what they really want.

Start slowly. Learn a little bit at a time. It’s not a race to get started on social media, but you can make great money in your business using good solid direct response marketing strategies with this media – and that’s what social media is…it’s another media that requires you to be strategic to have success with it in your business.
